Two-day, hands-on, no-cost workshops available to area teachers. Recertification and graduate credit available. These offer excellent opportunities to learn about agriculture through tours and engaging speakers, gathering ready-to-use resources, and making curriculum connections.

Large to Small – Iowa Farms Have It All (June 29-30)

Iowa is home to many farms and agribusinesses. Some farms are made up of large corn and soybean fields, some have only livestock. Others are home to a variety of fruits and vegetables destined for farmers’ market or sold as part of a CSA. Join us on day one as we explore these farms and learn the technology and science behind crop and livestock production while conserving natural resources. Day two, we will visit more farms via Skype, participate in interactive ag-related activities, and hear a variety of speakers. You will leave with grade-appropriate, Iowa Core aligned, hands-on activities to use in the classroom. All snacks, lunch, and transportation provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes for the travel day.

EDMA graduate credit is being offered for this course.  Please check with your partnering institution of higher education to be certain it will be accepted towards a master's degree or endorsement.

Growing a Healthy World – The Science Behind Feeding a Growing Population (July 10-11) 

Providing the world’s growing population with nutritious food while conserving natural resources is a difficult task. Science, technology, engineering, and math skills are required in all aspects of agriculture to meet all these needs. Come with us as we explore how companies and farmers are using STEM every day. Day one we will travel to several agribusiness sites to learn the present and future of agriculture. Day two, we will visit farms via Skype, participate in interactive ag-related activities, and hear a variety of speakers. You will leave with grade-appropriate, Iowa Core aligned, hands-on activities to use in the classroom. All snacks, lunch, and transportation will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes for the travel day.
